Vineyard Key Milestones

In 1851, Scottish immigrant Robert Lawson established Padthaway Station.

The potential to grow grapes in the region was recognised by official reports in the late 1940s.

As red wine sales increased, so did the need for vineyards and in 1963 Seppelt planted its first experimental vineyard in the region. With commercial plantings in 1964.

Hardy's and Lindemans entered the region in 1968.

The region gained a reputation as a white wine producing area and in the mid 1980s as a premium Chardonnay producer.

Today the region is known as a producer of premium Shiraz.
