	Australia's most famous strip of terra rossa soil is located half way between Melbourne and Adelaide in the heart of the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. The unique terroir of the Coonawarra region produces some of Australia's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz from this region is more Rhone like, producing elegant wines with a distinctive regional character.

	Vineyard Key Milestones


	By the 1890s John Riddoch had planted a large vineyard and established a winery in the region.

	Riddoch died in 1901, but had already successfully exported wine to England.

	In 1951, the Wynn family purchased the old Riddoch winery and heavily publicised the region. In 1953 Mildara Wines purchased a large tract of land at the very heart of the region.

	In the mid 1980s Mildara Wines merged with Wolf Blass Wines to create Mildara Blass wines and for the first time Wolf Blass had access to some of the finest vineyards in Coonawarra.

	Today, Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is considered Australia's classic expression of this noble variety.
